Research and Development Challenges

EPRI’s Balancing and Reserves research area supports the effective integration of renewables and DER by enhancing how system operators ensure sufficient frequency, reserves, and inertia services. This area focuses on developing methods, tools, and strategies to address operational challenges. EPRI collaborates with project set members to identify emerging reliability challenges, develop new models and tools for integration, and provide guidelines and leading practices to help inform operations, manage operational uncertainty. It also provides members information and insights about the latest practices across the world.
